Kleenex

CGR 115

Oh how I love an advertisement that can make you laugh. I like this ad for a few other reasons though too. First off I like how they didn't center the image. He's off to the side which gives them room for their little phrase there. I wish they would have moved it over just a hair though because to emit looks a bit tight next to his collar. I really like the font they used, I like that the tracking is closer together to match that of the kleenex. I think they could have moved "thank goodness for Kleenex up just a hair off the line but other then that good job! You usually associate kleenex with clods and blowing your nose, I think that the idea behind this was original!!!

Salsa

Typography

Tostito's salsa is the only salsa I eat out of a jar, so why not comment on the label. Not everything can be a classy design or layout and I'm coming more to terms with the fact that as long as its hitting the audience it's directed too and conveys the feeling its suppose to then it is successful. I think this label really gives you a sense of mexican salsa. The font is very playful, it makes you think of South American and flavor. I like how its made to look like the salsa is the background to the label and also that the ingredients used to make salsa are advertised on the front. Again this is another example where red and green don't make me think of christmas. Good job!!

Brilliant

CGR 115

I think this is a really successful add. Everything about it drew me in. First off the colors just pop off the page. The bright blue really comes forward with the solid black background. I also like that they have their logo forming into a design element at the bottom, the line coming off of that is really nice. Compositionally, everything lines up. I feel like the image being diagonal takes your eye across the page and adds interest in ad. In this case I also like that "Brilliant " is slightly backlit with the blue shown in the image. Very clean, crisp, professional ad. Good Job!!!

Jif

Typography

I think the Jif label is very well done, Its been around for years and its a brand everyone knows. I think the color scheme was a bold choice but I actually like it. Usually when you see red and green you think christmas. But the division of the red and green by the blue stripe doesn't make me think christmas at all. So good job there. I also like the font they chose for Jif. Its big and bold and all lower case. I think its cool when a name or title of something can be all lower case and still make an impact. It just goes to show what type can do. I have to say out of all of them the traditional top label is my favorite. Good Job Jif!!!

It's Almost Time to Mow

CGR 115

I think this flyer is done really well. The colors are very simple but it goes with the idea of what they are promoting really well. Everyone thinks of green when they hear the word grass or mow the lawn. I like the simple design elements such as the light green line and the small flowers on the corner of the box. Overall it looks very clean and well done. I like the different font variations including size and bold font. I also think it was a good idea to incorporate a question into the flyer, like they are talking to whoever is looking at it. Layout is really nice as well as the hierarchy. Good Job!!!

Adventures

CGR 115

I really like this flyer, there are only a few complaints that I have.  I think they could have done with less images, it looks a bit crowded to me. I like the one of the girl running and thats about it. they could have enlarged that image slightly and that would have been good. I love the color scheme. Different hues of the same color is always a nice ouch and it has consistency which I really like. I think it was a good choice to have the sponsors on the side and I like how the there is a slight wave design instead of the border going straight down making it boring and uniformed. I love the typography, you can really tell there was a lot of thought that went into it. There are many different variations which I like and they have the hierarchy of the information done right. The only other complaint I have is with the title. I actually don't like the font or how its laid out. I personally see corporate challenge before I see Scott Tinleys Adventures. If they made the title the darkest color and had it in any of the other fonts on the page I think it would solve that problem. Overall good job!!

Yakko

Typography

So I looked up Japanese menus and came across this one. I really don't like it at all. First off the color is horrible. White Can be used well, but this is not one of those times. The photos are not necessary and if they really were set on using photos they should have at least used better ones. The little diagram under the photo on the cover is even more unnecessary then the picture. It just makes it took cheap. so do the boxes on the last page, get rid of them!!! Whats worse is the horrible boxes have a drop shadow on them. The only thing that I do like on this menu is the font they choose, shocking. I really like the slight italics look that it has and I like that it looks Japanese without being to in your face about it. Overall though it needs a lot of improvements.
